2nd Annual Dehcho Clean Energy Conference

Dehcho Nations, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories August 5 - 8th, 2025

Representatives from the 12 Dehcho Nations attended the 2nd Annual Dehcho Clean Energy Conference hosted by Gonezo Energy.

WE REVISITED THE SUCCESS AND PROGRESS OF LAST YEAR’S EVENT, WHERE OVER $7M WAS SECURED FOR A FUEL SWITCHING WOOD STOVE PROGRAM AND DEHCHO YOUTH ENERGY ACTION COUNCIL.
The week consisted of presentations, workshops on energy literacy, a panel discussion with all Indigenous Lead Clean Energy Projects from across Turtle Island (Canada), and with utilities and funders. From this, the Dehcho Nations identified key themes as clean energy priorities in their communities. Through breakout-style workshops, project ideas were born and pitched to funders on the final day.
Excited and hopeful to see what comes of the 2 Annual Dehcho Clean Energy Conference!
A continued theme from the 1st Dehcho Clean Energy Conference was hearing the youth impress the importance of having health and wellness as part of this work – further solidifying the importance of equity in our climate action work.
We heard from the Elders, “The time is now. If we want the next generations to have a future, we must act today.”
Hosted by Gonezo Energy (Jason Collard, Robyn McLeod, Anonda Canadien, Ariah Rain, and Chad Bonnetrouge), the event was cofacilitated by Chief Kele Antoine of Deh Gáh Got’îê, alongside Bonnie Van Tassle and Heather Wolf Ear of Indigenous Clean Energy, Grace Nakimayak of the Paulatuk Energy Working Group, Andrea Warren of Tu-Deh-Kah, Mélanie St-Georges of CIRNAC, Derek Erasmus of Arctic Energy Alliance, Brandan Struthers of NRCan, Michael Ross, P.Eng., of Northern Energy Innovation at the University of Yukon, and Brigit Haley, P.Eng., of Barkley Project Group.
