Barkley Project Group’s Commitment as a Tribal Park Ally

We're excited to announce that Barkley Project Group is now a Tribal Park Ally with the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation!

Barkley Project Group is honoured to officially register as a Tribal Park Ally with Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, making us the first company from the industrial sector to join this vital initiative. Traditionally, most Tribal Park Allies have come from the tourism sector, marking a significant moment in our 20-year relationship with the Tla-o-qui-aht people, and we are thrilled to be part of this growing movement.

Our commitment as a Tribal Park Ally is grounded in recognizing the unceded rights and titles of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation. By pledging 1% of any revenue earned while working on their Haḥuułi (traditional territory), we are supporting ecological restoration, cultural revitalization, and fostering collaboration that prioritizes the long-term well-being of both people and the land.

The Nation has a deep connection to the land and waters, a relationship sustained for generations. Through this connection, they are rebuilding what has been lost, reclaiming their culture, and ensuring the future health of the land for all beings. As a Tribal Park Ally, Barkley Project Group has made the conscious decision to be part of this transformative journey, committing resources to a shared vision of ecological balance and cultural integrity.

The Tribal Parks program invites us all to walk a new path, one that deeply considers the responsibility each of us holds in maintaining the harmony of our surroundings. In the words of the
Nuu-chah-nulth people, this means embracing the principles of ʔiisaak (respect).

At Barkley, we understand the importance of being actively involved in the stewardship of the land we work on, and this pledge is a demonstration of our dedication to the values that support
Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation’s cultural and ecological restoration. Our contribution will help fund the Tribal Parks Guardians, a vital group working to mitigate the impacts of tourism, industry, and legacy pollution on this sacred land.

Barkley Project Group has had the privilege of supporting Tla-o-qui-aht’s renewable energy and economic development activities for two decades. This long-standing partnership is built on trust, collaboration, and shared values. Over the years, we’ve worked together to bring sustainable energy solutions to the region, and we have witnessed firsthand the resilience and determination of the Tla-o-qui-aht people as they work to reclaim their traditional territories and shape their future.

As we continue our partnership with Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, we are excited to be part of the larger circle of Tribal Park Allies and to contribute to the collective effort of restoring and protecting this sacred place for future generations. The Nation’s vision for revitalizing their Tribal Parks and the culture that keeps it alive is one we are proud to support.

With deep gratitude, we acknowledge the trust and commitment of Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation. The work of reconciliation and environmental stewardship is ongoing. Through partnerships like this, we can move forward with respect, humility, and a shared vision for a future where all beings can thrive.
