Haa-ak-suuk Creek Hydro
Haa-ak-suuk Creek Hydro is a 6.0 MW hydropower facility which is majority owned by Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation. It began commercial operations in May of 2014 and is Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation’s second hydropower project. Power is generated by a five-jet vertical Pelton turbine and sold to BC Hydro.
Haa-ak-suuk Creek Hydro is EcoLogo certified. It has a minimal footprint and the diversion reach is naturally free of fish. A key challenge in developing the project was safely routing the penstock and access road through a series of avalanche chutes.
